The edCardÒ program is a combination of a desktop PC emergency card application for K-12 schools and a hand help personal digital assistant (PDA) such as a Palm Pilot or Pocket PC. This program runs on either Windows 95, Windows NT or Macintosh operating systems. The system provides the principal and staff with current student information on a portable computer that turns on immediately and can be connected to either a network or serial cable and synchronized bidirectional. The information kept on the system includes addresses, work and home phone numbers, hours of work, etc. for family members including fathers, guardians and family friends who are authorized to receive the child from school.
The role of the edCardÒ is twofold, to have complete and current emergency/medical information on an emergency basis and to monitor those authorized to receive a child from the school site. In addition, the built in features of the Palm Pilot or the PocketPC allows staff access to appointment logs, address books and email. In an emergency situation such as an earthquake, you may not have the time or the ability to gather the various storage devices that contain the student emergency cards. With the edCard
system you only need to retrieve the PDA prior to leaving the premises. Furthermore, additional PDA's can be connected to the network allowing eCardÒ to be installed on the outside of the premises to provide further backup. The edCardÒ program can also be accessed via the internet using any web browser. The server version of eCardÒ supports all network protocols including TCP/IP.
Protect the students and your staff. The release of a child at the end of the day is monitored by an already overloaded teaching staff. When children are picked up from most school sites it is up to the teachers to monitor who is authorized to receive the student and the screening is done with various levels of competency. With eCardÒ all information concerning special cases as well as information regarding general student pickup can be monitored and is available directly at the point of release. Eliminate any possibility of being sued by a parent by taking all the precautions possible to ensure the safety of the child.
